He seems like a nice guy, and he is knowledgeable about the subject, but he's not very good at communicating the concepts to his students. Tests are very hard, be prepared to spend hours and hours looking over notes and reading the textbook. I recommend recording lectures because sometimes the information he gives differs from the textbook.

Though I was in a huge lecture class, Lane really tried to get to know people. He always invited us to his office hours and was eager to help in any way. He's tests can be a little difficult but if you just listen in class and go over the slides you should be good. He's very nice and helpful.

I loved this class! Lane really made an effort to get to know everyone personally and was always eager to help clarify anything outside of class. The material got much harder as the semester went on, but he did his best to explain it. Really organized and clear powerpoints. I recommend if you're at all interested in science.

Co-taught the class with Scott Holmes. The class was horrible! Totally hated it! And I dropped it. At least, I realized Biology wasn't for me.

Professor Lane is an amazing lecturer. His class has a lot to offer. His tests are very difficult though and as a freshman who doesn't know how and what to study, things can get get difficult.

I found Lane boring and inarticulate although he's a very nice guy. I think part of this had to do with the fact that he was teaching a Gen-Ed class and in trying to dumb down the biology, he just made it complicated and incomprehensible. It was not that difficult - I did not do the reading and did an average job on the essays and got a B

A wonderful professor, on the harder side, but is always willing to meet and spend the extra time to work with students. Focuses on the concepts rather than rote memorization, and really makes you think. I recommend him!
