Comment:
This was BY FAR the easiest class I've ever taken. The essays are ridiculously easy, with a max of 250 words usually. The quizzes were all open book. He provides his own notes for each chapter on D2L, so just open up the notes along side the quiz and you'll pass every quiz If I'm being honest, I passed this class with MINIMAL effort.

Prof. Hong is a nice guy, but a terrible professor. Aside from his heavy accent, he has a tendency to go off on random tangents that have no bearing on the material being taught. He also has a very large ego, saying multiple times that he expects most people to get C's or D's. 0/10, would not take his class again.

Prof Hong is someone who I really respect in the way that he offers insightful feedback and doesn't have an overbearing workload. You cannot do the bare minimum in this class, so as long as you put thought and philosophical thinking into your assignments, you will earn a great grade no problem.

Awesome teacher, I took a Buddhism class with Dr. Hong and it changed my life. Do not expect him to hand out A's, although both classes I have taken with him I got an A. Many students try to slide by but Dr. Hong requires individual thinking. He is the only teacher I have gone out of my way to visit with on material outside of the class.

I took PHIL 102 online with Dr. Hong and I have to say it has been one of the most enjoyable experiences with a college class I have ever had. He communicates frequently with the whole class and at the individual level. I talked with him on the phone and he is easy to talk to as well. I wish I had to take more PHIL classes cause I love Dr. Hong!

Easily one of the best teachers at MSUM. I have taken 3 classes from Dr Hong and immensely enjoyed every one. He is a fantastic albeit digressive lecturer. He is realistic with his requirements. I took one of his classes online and would recommend IRL classes if your schedule allows. If you are hard of hearing, he has a mild accent but speaks great

He will fail you for missing class 5+ times, but he will not tell you this until one of the last days of class. He didn't even call my name for attendance every time. He expects people to do poorly; he said he was surprised the class average on the final was as high as 71%. He has a friendly demeanor, but he doesn't care about you.

I did not need the book. Hong explains philosophy really well. The essays are just posts to an online discussion thread, very easy. Both tests are online too. The subject comes easy to me but if you need help, he will gladly talk to you during office hours. Even just to chat. Really pleasant guy. Offer your perspective, he'll appreciate it!

Great potential for this class but Chang Seong Hong just posted the class with assignments and never encouraged any participation nor attempted to reach out to students. It was lead you own thought processes and it was also interesting as you can tell this class has been taught the same way over and over as the materials had dates from 1 year ago

I loved my class with Dr.Hong. He's very intelligent, but very humble. The coursework in his upper-level courses is not easy, but he shows concern for the students. He modified assignments to make it easier on us. I also loved his stories and comments about North Korea and the US, they were always funny, insightful and interesting.

Overall a great professor. Yes, he can be hard to understand, but he REALLY cares about his students and his coursework is really easy. He provides Lecture notes for every quiz and is understanding. The easiest online class I have ever taken, and he's really funny too.

chris hong is the man!! he can be hard to understand but that can't be an excuse to do poorly in his class. he lets you take his tests online at home and every question on the test is in his notes that he gives you. He lets you take his tests twice.. and is seriuosly hilarious and cares about his students.

Awesome guy. Easy if you pay attention. He's really down to earth likes discussions and the only problem with my class was that I had shallow people that couldn't grasp any of the concepts. However he likes to joke and it's sad when people disrespect awesome teachers like him.

The 3/2/06 comment is hilarious and spot on. He goes off on tangents about totally random subjects.. why he spends so much time talking about buddhism in a western philosophy class is a mystery. his tests are easy though. if you're really interested in philosophy you can learn a lot more just reading the textbook, which is very good.

I had him for Epistemology. I loved it! He was awesome. I had a blast in that class even though I wasn't a philosophy major. I'll almost remember him telling us a story about how he had to wear his sword around campus to keep the Communists from picking a fight with him.
