Dr. Spellberg is an excellent professor. Her lectures are always interesting and engaging, and she is incredibly knowledgeable. She is always available to speak outside of class, and she genuinely loves listening to and helping students. I highly recommend taking one of her classes.

Shes an amazing lecturer! Our class was online thus the exams were take home which was a great plus. The class is really book heavy most of the material on the exam was straight out of the book so make sure you keep up with the readings.

Dr. Spellberg is funny, engaging, and one of the most knowledgeable people I've ever met. I've been at UT for years; she's probably the best prof I've had yet. She knows so much, cares about students and their wellbeing, and is easy to talk to. Take the class, show up to lectures, get to know her, and you'll do fine.

My favorite class last semester. Dr. Spellberg is not only incredibly repsected, but a fantastic lecturer. The material can get overwhelming, especially when you have dozens of dates and caliphs to memorize, but the tests are graded fairly and relatively easily. Tests are entirely short response/essay-based, so be ready for that.

If you don't have a background in Middle Eastern History, it isn't a big deal. Dr. Spellberg is very thorough in her lectures. She does dish out a lot of information, but don't get overwhelmed because she is quite clear on what to study specifically for the test. Read the Xerox packet she has and study the notes and you'll do well in the class.

Shes my favorite teacher Ive ever taken at UT. Shes a great lecturer and she goes over everything to make sure you understand. Her tests are very straightforward essay questions and she gives you a good heads up on whatll be on the test. Follow the reviews she gives and know the material she says to know and youll get an A for sure.

Best professor I've had at UT. Teaches the class as more of a story than just memorization so it's really easy to understand and interesting. Went in knowing NOTHING about this subject and now feel like I know so much. GO TO CLASS and write everything down that she says and you will get an A on the exam. Take her if you can!!!!

LOVE HER! Denise is a boss who can control the class. Very knowledgeable and fair. Her lectures honestly hammer in everything you need to know. Very easy tests - just follow the term sheets and go to review sessions. Don't skip class. Also, there's no need to buy the required reading - it's never covered.

this was probably my favourite class this semester. Her lectures are a bit hard to follow (she speaks very fast) but if you go to class everyday and take good notes and follow the term sheets she gives you should do fine. Very interesting lectures and she knows the material very well.

Doctor Spellberg was an amazing professor! Her class is made up of 4 tests, so make sure you're prepared. I didn't find the ready necessary, except for the course document packet because a section of each test is identifying and discussing documents from the packet. Otherwise, I really wouldn't bother buying the books.

Dr. Spellberg is so funny and such a knowledgable professor. She is so intelligent and passionate about the material and is also quite intimidating. Attendance isn't mandatory but I would recommend going. You also don't need to buy the books she suggests, just the course packet with the documents. The grading is based on 4 exams that are all easy.

Professor Spellberg know a lot about her topic. The class is made up of 4 grades; the 4 exams you take. Found the reading to be unnecessary except for the course packet, which contains documents that are always on the test. She has a review session before the tests and her review sheets generally have the essay topics on them so you can prepare.

Very good professor, not as difficult as people are saying. She's a great lecturer, and I didn't find the reading necessary. Her tests are Identifications, Document Identification (she gives you pretty good hints), and essay. I studied hard and I did well. If you go to class and take good notes, there's no reason you won't learn a lot.

One of the most outstanding professors I ever had. I learned so much from her. She tells you the stories that bring the history to life and help you understand historical figures as human. She's witty and interesting while staying respectful to the cultures and religions she teaches about, and explains how the world ended up in its current state.

HELL of a LOT of READING! She gives you id sheets so you know what to study and the essay questions on test aren't surprising but it's a LOT of information to absorb. Class is interesting but readings kill it. History classes are always a lot of memorizing but it never gets easier. She enjoys the subject and wants you to do well (as she said on a BAD essay I wrote). Excessive readings are my only complaint. I managed a B even having failed one test and many people I know got As.

Not helpful. Make sure you have a little background on the material. Ultra feminist.
