His lectures and note-taking styles are just not helpful for taking the exams. Read your book if you take his lectures.

Loechler handfed us material. Kind of material heavy but was straightforward. Weekly quizzes, not too sure I liked the swap professors after midterm 1. Was okay, basic biology you learn in AP Biology until the second half of the semester. Was kind of boring as he repeated himself a lot, but was probably trying to drill information into our heads.

If you have to take BI108, you can't go wrong with Loechler! All lectures comprise of him writing his own notes and the class copying them. He lectures while doing this, and manages to make a large volume of material concise and interesting! He is very accessible and truly cares about his students. He was even available to call during the midterm!

Professor Loechler is very well known in the biology department as he teaches some of the most commonly taken courses, but this is a very good thing. Loechler very clearly explains topics in lecture and teaches by writing out notes for students to copy as their study aid. It is extremely helpful!! Loechler really cares for his students' success!

Comment:
In this course, Prof Loechler simply lists all the most detailed facts about mol bio into bullet points and expect you to remember everything. Taking the course is just copy-pasting details without demonstrating one's understanding about the subject. The application questions on exams are very unclear to me. DO NOT take this course unless necessary

Loechler is genuinely such a gem. Molecular bio is hard, but his online exams are open note. He made a lecture outline for students to organize their notes exactly as he goes over them in lecture and leads all the discussion sections. You can tell he cares about his students, and he's super nice 1 on 1.

Prof Loechler gives organised, easy to understand, notes which is basically all you need for the exams. No textbook needed. He's funny and enthusiastic in keeping students engaged. Explanations are a bit lacking as there is too much emphasis on notes and syllabus.

He is the best BI108 teacher there is. Tolan switches over after Spring Break though and the difference in note taking/learning style is enough for me to recommend you take Spilios for BI108. For Loechler, study EVERYTHING he gives you. Every word is fair game for his tests and the tests WILL be hyper specific sometimes. Easy tests if you do that.

The BI 108 professors from best to worst are: Loechler, Spillios, Tolan. I absolutely love Loechler, but for some reason Tolan takes over after the second midterm and he sucks. While Loechler is amazing, I would recommend just taking Spillios because she's consistently decent and you won't have to change note taking styles mid semester.

If you're debating whether to take Loechler + Tolan for BI108 or Spilios, just take Spilios. But that doesn't change the fact I loved the way Loechler did his lectures because they were very clear and engaging. Wonderful professor.

Great professor, breaks down notes to the key concepts that are needed for the test, will answer questions during lectures and is willing to explain concepts multiple ways so students understand.

Highly recommended! He's the best. The pace of the class is super manageable, and all of the lectures material is from his notes! He lectures, then write the note down in class, then posts both the slides and notes on Blackboard. Could not ask for more.

Prof. Loechler is so caring and accessible outside of lectures. His lectures are recorded so they are easy to look back to. He does not curve down on grades even if the median is like 93.

I really liked the way he taught in lecture. He would go over the powerpoint slides and then switch to writing notes down which he projected on the board. This made it easier for us students because he only wrote down info we needed to know. Throughout the lecture, he always checked to make sure we understood everything. Overall 8/10

He tells you what you need to know for the exams; just attend lectures and copy the notes/outline he writes and you should be fine. Know everything that he writes down for the exams, yes even that more obscure thing. The class was easy and a bit boring at times because the lecture goes very slowly, but overall, it was fine. And I would take again.

Loechler is a G. He writes out the notes for everything you will need for the tests so be sure to go to class. He also does an amazing job at explaining complex concepts. Very smart, super sweet, wish I had him for the whole year.

Professor loechler is my favourite professor Ive had at BU so far. His lecture style is amazing because he explains with slides so we can listen and then we write it down. His exams are fair; every single question comes straight from his notes. Im just sad he doesnt teach the second part of the bi108.

Professor Loechler explains the material with powerpoint and then writes everything down again as notes. This seems redundant to me, but his notes are definitely useful for studying. His test questions can be confusing most of the time because of the wording, so you have go through all the material (ppt, ppt text, notes, txtbk) to get an A.

Everything a professor SHOULD be! Very thorough in his lectures and moves at a slow pace so that everyone can succeed, not just the privileged kids who took all AP's in high school. Tries to help students in every possible way but you still have to put in the effort to pass (as it should be). One of the few good profs left at BU who teaches well

This guy is a gem. Amazing lecturer and breaks concepts down so that they are much easier to understand. He actually made his own notes during the lecture and had us copy them down so we knew exactly what to study and could focus more while he was lecturing rather than stressing about what to copy down.
