Comment:
Do not take MATH475. Unclear lectures, unclear grading scheme that changed halfway through the class. As of the final week of classes, we did not know what the final would be. Essentially a proof writing course but worse, without clarity.

Professor Pedit who will go the extra mile(s!) to expound on some of the vast mathematical knowledge he has at hand, in response to even class-unreleated queries. In 370, be sure to do all of the papers and pay attention to the details of LaTeX formatting, for that is what the class is about. If he offers an honors section for any course, take it!

Great dude. I had him in Math 132H and decided to take his honors colloquium in the fall of 2019. Chill course and doesn't expect much. Had great conversations with him and overall a pretty engaging person.

Pedit's a nice teacher for junior year writing as he doesn't expect much. The papers are more for you to get used to using Latex and understanding the problem in general. It's graded really lightly. Attendance isn't taken during class, but you should make an effort to attend as the stuff he says is sometimes relevant and helpful to assignments.

Franz is a great professor. He is funny, engaging, and is an overall brilliant guy. His homework was challenging but doable. The purpose of the homework is to challenge and help you learn while the lectures give an overview of the material. His tests were easy, besides the final. The final was on Riemann Zeta Function, but it was take home.

Franz Pedit was the best teacher I had this past semester. Absolutely fantastic. He is very engaging and keeps the math interesting with weird quirks and stories. The homework is VERY difficult but rewarding as it sets you up for the next thing you will learn. He does teach extremely quickly and if you miss a class you will need to borrow notes!

I usually skipped all my math classes but Franz was so funny I attended every single class this semester. The homework is hard be prepared to go to office hours and don't put it off till the last minute. The exams were similar to the practice exams. Basically possible to get an A (which I got) if you go to class and do all the homework.

Tough class, tough homeworks! But exams weren't that bad thou. He has some accents, but it's not incomprehendible. I enjoyed the class very much. I would definitely take his class again.

Best teacher in UMass! He is awesome, and has a great sense of humor. Homework questions are very challenging, but he gives very good feedback and exam questions weren't bad. You gotta take his class!

Franz is a nice guy and he is funny but his class is difficult. He gives you the basics in his notes and then the homework is extremely difficult. Your grade is based on two exams and your homework so if you flunk one you are screwed.

The homeworks are trying but not graded too toughly. The tests are easy. He often goes off on tangents that are not exactly related to the material, but always interesting. The class itself was interesting for a math class. Definitely take the class with Pedit if you have the option.

Franz wants engineers to do well and really stresses the real world applications. It can seem daunting especially with some challenging hmwrks but the two exams are really simple. The tests just make sure you know how to solve an ODE, really easy. He also has a nice sense of humor!

Absolutely hilarious. The tests were the same as the homework problems. By far the easiest math course I've taken, but I really enjoyed it. He realizes most of his students are engineers so he gives a lot of real world examples.

This class was an amazing experience. The homework was some of the hardest stuff I've ever had to do but boy did I learn a lot. Although the homework is hard 75% of the grade comes from the tests which are about as easy as you can get (he tells you the answers ahead of time). Franz is awesome and hilarious.

A very interesting and engaging class. The homework pushed me to my very limit, but the tests (which count for 75% of the grade) were easy as could be. Franz is awesome and every class was fun. Be warned though, he expects you to already know some basic calculus.

Franz is awesome! He is hilarious and always joking with his students, making class interesting. He is very detailed with his explanations, but sometimes goes very deep into them and they become abstract. Homework is sometimes impossible, but if you go to the TA discussions they practically do the homework for you. Don't buy the textbook!

Franz is brilliant and is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to mathematics. He taught us mostly theories and abstract things, which is very different from other 131 classes. The class and homework materials were very difficult, but as long as you do it you are all set. The tests were really easy and he always gave a review sheet before.
