Not any easy professor, but not bad. Tests are fair. His lecture notes are VERY helpful. Gives chances to improve grades (EC, makeups, curves, dropped assignments). I like his energy when teaching, but he can move a bit fast at times. Assigns quite a bit of HW, but is helpful if you have questions. Has a thing for trick questions on HW and tests...

Dr. Riley is very friendly and writes fair tests, but I struggled with the lengthy daily homework he assigned and his lecture style. He presents the basics in class and expects students to read to extend their understanding. Reasonable enough, but I struggled with extending the course content.

If possible take classes with anyone else, sad to think he's the head of the math department and gets away with telling people to leave the school. He isn't a people person to say the least.

He is a great lecturer, but likes to ask trick questions on homework and tests. He frequently expects you to make illogical jumps between what he says and what he wants. Overall, I feel like I finished with a good grasp of the subject, but I have never had to work so hard for a B.

Riley is a nice enough guy. Pros: the old exams give exactly the kind of questions he asks on exams. The programs can be hard, depending on how good at MATLAB you are- watch lots of videos and look at lots of code online to make sure you understand everything. Cons: the tests have a lot of short answer; sometimes he's not good at explaining things.

Comment:
MATH373 - Intro to Numerical Analysis is extremely confusing. There is a huge disconnect between his lectures and homework and therefore the homework doesn't help with the tests. He expects the class to use MatLab, which is a fine program if you know how to use it, but my major (metallurgy) doesn't require any kind of programming knowledge.

Gives extremely hard tests, you will not pass his class if you don't know the material inside, outside, up, down, left and right. He will help you if you need help, he's a nice guy. He won't tolerate any bull, just keep up with your work and go in office hours, don't skip class and ask questions, even if he makes you feel stupid.

Riley's classes are not easy. Overall, hes actually a very good teacher, and on a personal level a really nice guy. However, his tests are very hard, and you really have to know what your doing to get a good grade.
