Go to class for easy 3 question quizzes for attendance. Read the book, tests are very, very specific and detailed. Class average on tests are around C range. Would not recommend taking this class tho. Nice man, but it is boring and made me fall asleep every time.

He's nice but a horrible professor. Heavy on lecture straight from the book and gives pop quizzes 2 minutes before the class ends. Grades are made up of four tests that have nothing to do with what he teaches in class!! If you need an A, stay away. He's very knowledgeable and cute with his little red hat but he is not helpful at all.

The professor is extremely nice but his class is extremely hard for a GE. He lectures for 48 minutes and then at the end of class a pop quiz. No attendance but pop quiz forces you to come anyways. The tests are ridiculously hard. Average on tests was a D-, if you do not read the book and teach yourself, you wont pass.

He doesn't take attendance but there are quizzes so go to class. No Homework, just tests. Basically If you do the entire study guide and go to class, You should be able to get at least B's on his tests. Some questions can be tricky but If you take the time to read the book, you will do well. He's super nice and his lectures are easy to listen to.

Prof Kavaljian is a nice old man, but he should just stick to that at home. If he is not just dreading on directly for the book then he's giving you a short quiz literary two minutes before the class is over. He does tell a lot a funny jokes, but are we really here for that? His test and bizarre in the way he words them. If you need an A stay away.

Comment:

Professor Kavaljian is a nice old man who is obviously passionate about biology. Although his lecture style is a little old fashioned (he uses the overhead projector to project the book) he finds little ways to make the lecture interesting. The lectures can be a little boring but he also tells you exactly what will be on the exams.

Prof Kavaljian is a nice older man. 20 quizzes and 4 exams. I found his lectures very confusing. To pass this class you must dedicate hours of your time to reading the textbook during your own time. YOU NEED THE TEXTBOOK. Not the hardest class ever, but you definitely need to spend a lot of time teaching your self and studying the material.

Kavaljian is this adorable, little old man that wears a beret hat all semester. 20 pop quizzes, 3 questions for each one 3 exams, 50 questions, pretty tough 1 final, not cumulative Lectures can be boring so make sure you read the book on your own Tests are pretty difficult but he curves them Overall okay course, not dreadful.

Very boring. If you read you don't have to show up to class besides having to take daily quizzes which are easy. I was on my phone 247 in that class and I only read the chapters on the day of the quizzes and still managed to get a B in the class P

He is a cute old man but WOULD NOT recommend to someone who needs an A in this class, his tests are so hard even with a cheat note card (he lets you have one) and his study guides are no help. His lectures put me to sleep. Quizzes are ridiculous. He curves so I guess thats cool.... but the average for tests is around a D (60%)

There are short, open book quizzes (20 total, 3 short Q's ea). There are 4 exams (ea. exam is 50pts & ea. based on 4-5 chapters). Exams are extremely hard, but he does curve. He teaches the class like we already know the material & no interaction during class. You'll need to learn on your ownread every detail in the book. Difficult class. No HW.

I do not recommend this professor. Lectures are pointless, you might as well just read the book and teach yourself. But you still have to go class due to random pop quizzes. There are four exams! The class avg was very low, but he curves. I ended up with an A. Avoid him, if possible. He makes the class much harder than it should be.

I would avoid taking this course with him! Lecture was SO boring. All he did was read straight from the textbook every class, so basically I could have gone up there and taught it myself. The only thing motivating me to go were the daily quizzes, your grade is based off those and 4 exams which everyone did poorly on. Thankfully he curves the class

I wish I would have taken this class with a different instructor since we have no hw and only test the grade is only based on the midterms and in class quiz's. I didn't really learn a lot due to the format in this class. Teacher is enthusiastic about the subject but when approached about something he seems moody and unwilling to help.

Very scattered and unorganized with lecture, and gets off topic a lot, but the vast majority of his test material comes from the book. Read it and you'll be fine, even if you don't go to class.
