Life-changing. Dr. Morantz-Sanchez really opened my eyes. I took her course "The History of the Family in the US" in the early 2000s for a race and ethnicities credit, and walked out a changed person. She contextualized American history, political policies, and I gained ability to critically analyze newspaper articles and review historic texts.

I took classes from Dr. Morantz in the late 70s at the University of Kansas and I became a historian because of her. I am no longer in the field or in touch with her, but I wanted to leave this review because there was no Rate My Professor back then. She would have beat every professor at the college on the hotness factor. ;-)

She really knows her stuff and has a lot of passion for the subjects she talks about. Lectures are REALLLLYYY dry though. The GSI I had was great and super helpful. All the exams are take home essays, which made getting an A really easy. If you like history and are good at writing, this is a perfect class for you.

She knows what she is talking about, but she is so scattered she jumps from one thing to another. I dislike the seminar, and would not recommend it. She is helpful and nice, but her class jumps all over the place. We sometimes have interesting discussions that are on topic, but it takes a while to get on topic.

Passionate and intelligent. Cares deeply about her students and is always willing to talk. We all went to her house for pizza at the end. However, the assigned reading was impossible to complete - but that didn't really matter since the grade is mostly based on papers.

She clearly knows her stuff. There is an incredibly overwhelming amount of reading assigned, but you're usually okay not reading every bit of it. Her lectures are on the dry side even though the information is interesting. Still, she cares deeply about her students and her subject, so I'd recommend her anyway.

Yes, she is hard. But she also really wants her students to do well and to understand her material. If you take the time to talk to her, she will love you. Probably my favorite teacher :)

Yikes....so much reading I hardly had time for anything else. She obviously tried to make the information interesting, it just wasn't my thing. Be ready to read and participate in your discussion sections!

There is a LOT of reading, but it's not that difficult. The lectures aren't the most interesting, but the outlines are usually posted on CTools, and you're fine if you show up occasionally and ALWAYS show up to discussion and participate. Overall, not a bad class, but not a great one.

I really enjoyed Prof Morantz-Sanchez. Yes the readings are long and you need to start early if you are going to finish them but she's really passionate about what she's teaching and I enjoyed listening to every lecture. You can do well if you do all the reading and talk to your GSIs.

Professor Morantz-Sanchez seems to think her students only take her class. Weekly readings consist of at least 150 pages in numerous dense articles, making them nearly useless. She talks from the moment her 1 1/2 hour class starts to its finish. She is very approachable and helpful to students, but I did not get very much out of this class.

Overall this class was not too bad, there is A LOT of reading and you're screwd if you don't go to section. If you're not really interested in the subject then it can be really boring. But the Professor herself is very understanding and available to students

Reading amount was crazy. Attendance required. Questioned/put on the spot about missing class or section. Wouldn't let people sit in the back of the room. Writing assignments given on missed lecture material. Overwhelmingly detailed 1.5 hr lectures. Reminded me of high school in unpleasant ways. No anonymity.

THIS CLASS IS BY FAR THE WORST CLASS AT THIS SCHOOL. The coursepack alone is 900 pages and it is definitely possible to go through the whole semester without reading one of the articles. Each essay is 10 pages and is on material that is by far the most boring and pointless information EVER. NEVER TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!

Took a history class from her. She spends the entire semester spouting her views. If you disagree, you will be sorry. I received a B++/A- on a paper. What in the world is that? She has her favorites, who, of course, agree with everything she says.

I enjoyed these two women's history classes. There was a lot of reading, and lectures could be dry, but the material was great if you like this subject. There's no way to fail this class, because exams are take-home! And you get plenty of time to do them.
