Comment:
This is my second class with Dr. Ashworth. You can get an A in this course without using the book because all the information you need can be found in his lectures. 3 exams and one paper make up your grade. The exams are in essay format and he's a tough grader, so you really need to study, but a good grade is achievable.

Dr. Ashworth does a really nice job of making what can be a dry topic (ancient world history) into easy listening. He is funny, knowledgeable, and gives great lectures. I will say, you do not need to read the textbook to do well in the class because the tests are based entirely on lecture info. Go to lecture, take good notes, & use the term sheets.

He's one of those professors who take off points for doing everything you need to do, so only expect 13/15 on each the 4 essays on an exam due to this. Only 1 person in the class gets a 15/15, IF they deserve it. So if you do everything every test is an automatic 12 points off, leaving you with a maximum of 88/100. Lectures are wrong on occasion.

Dr. Ashworth is a brilliant and funny man who is well versed in the world of history. As someone who loves history, I looked forward to his lectures every week. You don't need the Histories of World Societies to take the class, but you will need the Sources of World Societies for your breakout sessions. I look forward to taking more of his classes!

Dr. Ashworth is an enthusiastic and entertaining teacher. He is also extremely knowledgeable on the history of science. His talks are generally well organized; he's clearly an experienced lecturer. His exams are somewhat demanding, but not excessively so. They require diligent note-taking, but he hands out term sheets at EVERY class.

Long winded. Physical sciences 128 was a mass of information that was WAY out od proportion to course level.

I only took this class because I registered last minute and needed something to fulfill a history general elective. Boy, was I in for a surprise. His. of Scientific Revolution was extremely interesting, but oh so difficult. ALL note taking, and really hard texts. But he really knows his stuff. Worth taking if you are studious.

Took him in 2008. His lectures were extremely engaging. Expect to read some books, and study tons of notes for exams(and i mean it). But he does post up old exams for you to look at, and at times will reuse them. If in need of an easy elective class(and you don't mind reading and spending quite some time studying), you should take this class.

This Professor is terrible. He doesn't give feedback, doesn't care about the class and didn't even read the "clunker" books that he assigned. A pitiful waste of money and time!

This class was HORRIBLE. I studied my butt off and couldn't get anywhere. He teaches way too much information for one semester and does not explain concepts very well. I never knew what to study, as there was so much information. This is the hardest class I've taken in my entire life. Don't do it...

Dr. Ashworth is a great lecturer and teaches science from an engaging historical perspective. If you are looking for a class to fill out your electives, don't mind a bit of a challenge, and are looking for a great/memorable personality I would recommend Dr. Ashworth. If you want to take the easier way out I do not recommend him.

I loved Dr Ashworth. He is incredibly smart, and he turns every lesson into something fascinating. I never felt closer to "getting what it's all about" than when I was in his class.

Absolutely the best instructor and courses I have ever taken in my life --- however, his classes require that you listen, take excellent notes, study, & prepare in order to get a decent grade. Studied and sometimes could only get a B+. I took several of his classes and he never disappoints. If you can't get to class 99% of time, then don't enroll.

This class is awful. The professor does not care about the students, confuses students when questions are asked of him, and does not allow much room for improvement one you mess up. It's hard to get a good grade without devoting your entire life to this course. This is the hardest class I've ever taken in all my schooling.

This class requires heavy reading and the exams are very extensive. Dr. Ashworth is incredibly knowledgeable. The class was very consistent but also fast-paced. I can definitely say that out of all my coursework, in this class I learned the most.

This class was incredibly hard for me. If you are truly interested in the material, you will do well. Heavy reading is required. Exams are all essay. A term paper is required. The course consists of daily lecture. You must attend class regularly to succeed here. He really knows his stuff! That makes the essays even harder!

One of the best classes I ever took. Consistent, well planned, even-keeled, and informative. The class was a good balance of challenge and interest.
